I grew up with Earl as a next-door neighbor in South Marion. He was two years older, but we were close enough to have the same interests. It was the time a couple of years after WWII ended, when superhero comic books burst on the scene — Superman, Batman etc. I remember Earl’s favorite character was the Green Lantern. He would choose Green Lantern as his persona when we played our make-believe cops-and-robbers games. These days, I think they call it cosplay. Earl was a nice kid, probably too gentle for the scrappy, lower-middle class crowd we grew up in. He and his brother, Ray, went to St. Paul’s Catholic School, while the rest of us went to McCulloch in the public school system. I stayed in occasional touch with Earl until I left Marion in 1968, and I would occasionally read about his bowling feats after that. I’m sorry to learn Earl is gone now — just discovered it today through the magic of the internet, more than five years after his death. Rest easy, Earl. Our old neighborhood gang is nearly gone.

Rita: Mom, Susan and I remember Earl from Brinker.Heights when our families were neighbors. I was close friends with Karmen. I remember meeting Earl. I also remember when Karmen and I babysat with Jimmy. We are so sorry to hear about Earl. He was a very nice man. We send you our sympathies and prayers. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We are so sorry to hear about Earl. We have known Earl for many years. We met Earl through the Puterbaugh Family. And, we knew Earl from the years that we attended NorthEast Church Of God in Marion. Earl was a very fine gentleman and Judy was a nice lady. We send our condolences and prayers to Earl's sons and grandchildren. May God bless you with His peace during your time of loss.
