David J. Smith

David J. Smith, age 45, of Matthews passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 in his home.

David was born December 19, 1972 in Marion, Indiana the son of James Smith and Cheryl “Sherry” (Cooper) Smith.  He married Cheryl Wise on October 16, 1999 and she survives.

He had worked as an account manager for EZ Rent-To-Own in St. Cloud, Florida.  He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Matthews.  David loved his cat Adam.  He was very close with his nephew, Colton Davis and was very competitive when it came to the game Yahtzee!

He is survived by his father, James (Susan) Smith of Van Buren; his mother, Cheryl “Sherry” Smith of Indianapolis; his wife, Cheryl Smith of Matthews; a son, Aaron James “AJ” Smith of Matthews; brothers, Keith Smith and Andrew Smith, both of Marion; sister, Kimmy (Todd) Craighead of Indianapolis; step-sisters, Tracy (Scott) Riddle of Niceville, Florida and Kelly Bradley of Nappanee, Indiana; paternal grandmother, Charlotte Smith of Marion; and maternal grandmother, Marilyn Boots of Toledo, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at noon on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 105 W. 8th Street, Matthews, Indiana with Pastor Jan Bunch officiating.  Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at noon on Thursday.

Burial will immediately follow funeral services in Van Buren Cemetery, Van Buren, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.
