Mary E. Butler

Mary E. Butler, age 92, of Marion passed away at 3:32 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center, Marion, Indiana.

Mary was born May 20, 1926 in Sweetser, Indiana the daughter of the late Fred and Glendora (Foster) Stevens.  She married Lester Butler January 26, 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2013.  She worked at Dennison’s Food Market and the Farm Bureau Co-Op.  She also assisted her late husband at the Davis Clinic.

Mary was a member of Grace Community Church in Marion and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 368, Van Buren since 1965.  In her younger years, she was on a women’s bowling league.  She was Precinct Committee Woman for the Grant County Democrats. She was very knowledgeable about nature and loved watching and feeding birds.  Mary was known for her quick wit and story telling.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Butler (Marilyn Felton) of Montpelier; two granddaughters, Kristi (David) Singer of Jalapa and Megan Vasquez (Tony) of Marion;  great-granddaughter, Shaylin Butler of Marion; sister, Vera Johnson of Marion; and sister-in-law, Minnie Stevens of Muncie.

She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday August 17, 2018 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Burial will take place following funeral services in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #368 Ladies Auxiliary, 115 E. Main Street, Van Buren, Indiana 46991; or to the Sweetser Fire Department, P.O. Box 399, Sweetser, Indiana 46987.
