Robert Butler Obituary

Robert T. “Bob” Butler, age 95, of Marion passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Marion General Hospital in Marion.

Bob was born September 27, 1923 in Gas City, Indiana the son of the late Everett and Naomi Ruth (Ferguson) Butler.  He married Betty Eltzroth on May 25, 1944, and she survives.   He was a veteran of the U.S. Army the 71st Infantry 44th Division serving as corporal from 1943 to 1946.

Bob was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 33 years until his retirement.  After his retirement he worked part-time assisting with funerals at Raven-Choate Funeral Home for several years. 

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Marion; the McCulloch Lodge F&AM No. 737 where he was Past Master and Secretary; the Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne; the Ft. Wayne Shriners; the Mizpah Shrine Temple of Ft. Wayne and a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty J. Butler of Marion; a son, Thomas Lee Butler (Susan) of St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Johnston (Richard) of Indianapolis, Indiana; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bob was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Smith and a brother, William Butler.

Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Masonic Services will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the First Christian Church, 1970 N. Wabash Road, Marion, Indiana with Pastors Roslyn Harrison and Richard Johnston officiating.

Burial will follow in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, for the Scholarship Fund, 1970 N. Wabash Road, Marion, Indiana 46952; or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Road, Tampa, Florida 33607.
