Robert E. Hillyer, age 89, of Marion, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at Wesleyan Healthcare Center, Marion, Indiana.

Robert was born on September 30, 1928 in Muncie, Indiana the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Craner) Hillyer.  He married Geraldine Eastes on December 10, 1949, and she survives.

Robert was a Navy veteran and served aboard the U.S.S. Monroe during the Korean Conflict.  “He loved his country and those who served it.”  He was a supervisor at Active Products for 15 years and then worked in maintenance at Marion Community Schools for 13 years, retiring in March 1990. 

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Hillyer of Marion; two daughters, Mary Diskey (John) of Fairmount, and Jeanine Sollars of Marion; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Plank of Marion, Brooke (Ray) Mullen of Noblesville, and Colin Sollars of Marion; one great-grandson, Cameron Mullen and one sister Waneta Wade of Greenburg, IN.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Sue Hillyer and two sisters, Evelyn Mitchell and Viola Biscomb.

Cremation will take place and private Graveside Services will be held at a later date.
