Sally M. Raven

Sally Raven (nee Sailor) died peacefully on Friday, September 28 in Austin, Texas.  She was 85 years old and had been in frail health for some time. 

Sally lived in Marion for over 40 years before moving full-time to Ft Myers, FL and then to Austin.  She was a civic leader, community volunteer and musician, an active member of the Lyric Club, P.E.O., Advance Club, the Hostess House, and the choir of First United Methodist Church among other community groups.  Sally was a free-lance writer for local magazines and newspapers.  She taught piano, and she worked alongside her husband in managing what was then known as the Raven Funeral Home. 

Sally graduated from Indiana University in 1954 with majors in business and journalism (Phi Beta Kappa).  Her passions included politics, bridge, music, culture and travel.  Those same interests endure in her children and grandchildren, along with the strong family ethic she nourished. 

Sally is survived by children, Nancy Abell (Torrance) of Austin, Bruce (Sherrie) of Austin, and Karen (Bill Ehrlich) of New York, NY; and grandchildren, Allison, Becky, Elisabeth and Bryce.  She was preceded in death by her husband, David.

Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
