Beverly Jean (Curtis) Bartel was born on Aug 17th, 1944, in Elwood Indiana to Hilda and Bill Curtis. She was an only child and spent much of her time as youth with her aunts from her mother’s side of the family the Robertsons, all of which had many children that she enjoyed being around and she thought of as brothers and sisters. She married young to Steve Jernigan and moved to Calif and had her surviving Son David Jernigan there at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California.
Beverly had a lot of turmoil in her young life. She didn't finish High School before getting married. She later got her Ged. and through the years various other certifications and accreditations. She had four careers throughout her life. She always excelled through hard work and tenacity, usually ending up in charge of things if she was there long enough. She often worked 2 jobs. Beverly frequently worked evenings as a waitress/bartender or in the catering industry.
She was an accountant starting with smaller companies rising to be an auditor for Hilton hotels in the 80's where she traveled around the country auditing the various locations. One of her points of great pride while at the Hilton was surviving an IRS audit with no penalties.
Beverley briefly got into nursing and was a CNA on the trauma floor of Scottsdale Memorial hospital in Arizona and worked as an in-home caregiver as well.
Later she got into real estate and property management. She managed Apartment complexes and sold condominiums locally and in Arizona. Another point of great pride for her was keeping her complex in Arizona at 100% occupancy. She was also an innovator coming up with new methods to market and keep units rented in the off season and she loved her teams. She was a great manager and team leader with the right amount of toughness and compassion. Beverly was able to train others to be leaders too, as many of her staff went on to manage their own properties.
Too late in life she reconnected with the love of her life David Bartel and married him for the second time. Their short time together was the happiest time of her life. Being a wife, camping, fishing, golfing, and volunteering at the local American Legion Post #10, and American Legion Post # 10 Auxiliary.
After Husband David's passing, she retired to Arizona to be with her surviving family. After years of bad health, beating Lung Cancer 2 times, it was ultimately a fall and broken bones she was not able to recover from. She passed peacefully in her Arizona home with family around her.
She is survived by her beloved dog and second son Casper, Son David Jernigan & his wife Renda Jernigan, Stepson David L Bartel and his husband David Trujillo, Grandchildren Chaz, Leif, Rafe, Sam & Lily Jernigan, All of Phoenix, Az. Great Grandchildren Sawyer and River Jernigan of Cedar Rapids IA. Stepdaughter Kellee New of Ft. Worth, Texas.
