David E. Johnson, a dedicated transportation specialist who faithfully served the VA Northern Indiana Health Care system before his retirement, passed away on April 1, 2026, in Marion, Indiana. Born on September 12, 1959, in Logansport, Indiana, David lived a life marked by service, devotion to family, and a spirit of adventure.
David began his journey in Logansport and carried his hometown values throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Navy, demonstrating commitment and honor in his military service. After his naval career, he devoted himself to supporting veterans through his work at VA Northern Indiana Health Care, where he specialized in transportation services.
Outside of his professional achievements, David was a man of many passions. He was an enthusiastic member of the NCIS motorcycle club, finding camaraderie and joy in the company of fellow riders. His love for travel and the great outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of camping trips in his RV, embracing the freedom of the open road. Above all, David cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and family, nurturing deep and lasting bonds.
David’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his daughters Alicia (Jacob Denny) Johnson and Deidra Johnson (Don Sargent), his son David Johnson, and siblings Frosty (Lisa) Johnson, Dennis Johnson, and Marianne Johnson. He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren Austin Johnson, Miyah Sargent, Alonna Sargent, Donny Sargent IV, and Archer Denny, who brought immense joy to his later years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Joanne Johnson; his adoptive parents, Richard and Mary Johnson; and his brother, Paul Johnson. The memory of these loved ones remains treasured by those who knew David.
David E. Johnson’s legacy is one of dedication—to his country, his career, and most deeply, his family. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit endures in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
