Harry Joseph "Joe" Certain 81 passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2026. He was born on May 13, 1944 in Marion, Indiana to the late Harry “Buzz” and Agnes Certain.
Joe married Jackie "Crimmins" Certain on June 25, 1966 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Joe was a graduate of Bennett High School, class of 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loras College in 1966. In 1969, he received a law degree from Indiana University. He then served his Country by enlisting in the United States Navy attaining the rank of lieutenant in the JAG Corps. Upon Honorable Discharge of his military service, he returned to Marion where he practiced law at Kiley, Harker, Certain, Law Firm for 60 years.
As a faithful steward of Grant County, Joe participated in many organizations throughout the community including: The Grant County Community Foundation, Meshingomesia CC President, St. Paul Catholic School Board, Various Economic Development Projects, The St. Paul Catholic Church Finance Committee, Two Dogs Fishing Club.
In his free time Joe enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren, often in the outdoor pursuits of: Golf, Fishing, Boating, and attending Sporting events.
Joe is survived by his wife Jackie Certain, sons Harry (Ali) Certain, Tim (Wilma) Certain, Jeff (Erin) Certain, Adam (Shannon) Certain, grandchildren Sam, Jack, Connor, Ben, Abe, Evan,and Lucy
He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Agnes Certain and daughter Catherine Marie Certain
The Family will receive friends during visitation at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home located at 1202 West Kem Road Marion, IN on Thursday May 14th, 2026 from the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Paul Catholics Church on Friday May 15th at 10:00 a.m.; with visitation in the Narthex one hour prior. Final resting place will be at the IOOF cemetery in Marion, Indiana directly following the mass.
