James E. Burns Jr., affectionately known as Jimmy, passed away peacefully at his residence in Marion, Indiana on September 10, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on August 28, 1955, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, to James E. Burns Sr. and Jean Moore. With a heart that touched the lives of many, Jimmy was a wonderful man who leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
In his professional life, Jimmy dedicated himself to the craft of Tool and Die at Fisher Body, where his skilled hands and keen attention to detail earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his career, he found joy in simple pleasures that brought connection to those around him. An avid golfer, Jimmy played in numerous local leagues and scrambles, where the camaraderie and competition fostered friendships that lasted a lifetime. He could often be found at Don's Tap, enjoying a drink and good company, always ready to share a smile or a story. His love of gardening added beauty not just to his home but to his community, as he nurtured the earth around him with care. And at the heart of his life was Buddy, his beloved dog, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved sister, Deborah Burns; his son Steven (Lotus) Rice; his daughters Crystal (Edward) Johnson and Amber (Aaron Frazier) Rice; and nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, who will all carry forward his spirit and warmth. He also leaves behind four cherished nieces and one nephew, each of whom holds a special place in their hearts for him.
While the loss of James is deeply felt, he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Wonetta Burns, whose memory brought him comfort and happiness throughout his life. He joins other beloved family members who have gone before him, including his father, James E. Burns Sr., his mother, Jean Moore, and his sister, Sandy Hobson.
Visitation will be held on September 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, located at 1202 West Kem Road in Marion, Indiana. Following this, a funeral service will commence at 1:00 PM and conclude at 2:00 PM at the same location.
