Janet C. McIlwain

Janet C. McIlwain, of LaFountaine, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on January 2, 1953, in Marion, Indiana, Janet spent her life devoted to family, friends, and her community.

Janet was a proud graduate of Oak Hill High School, where she built friendships and experiences that shaped her future. She went on to serve as a dedicated secretary and agent with Quigley Insurance Agency, a position she held faithfully for over twenty-five years. Through her work, Janet became known for her professionalism, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those she served.

Janet’s love for family was central to her life. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Lenetta Drake and Sharon Hemphill, who cherish memories of sisterhood and support shared through every season of life. Janet also leaves behind a devoted extended family: stepdaughters, Susan (Rob Presson) McIlwain and Lisa (John) Prokopek; stepsons Jeff (Rita) McIlwain and Ron (Marge) McIlwain. Her nieces and nephews will remember her warmth, encouragement, and loving presence.

Janet was a devoted wife to Charles T. McIlwain for thirty-eight years, until his death in 2016. 

She was preceded in death by her father, James "Bob" Patterson, and her mother, Margurite "Carol" Patterson, whose influences remained profound throughout Janet’s life.

Janet will be deeply missed by her sisters, nieces and nephews, and her extended stepfamily. Her legacy of kindness and service endures in the hearts of all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, located at 1202 West Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Janet will be laid to rest at LaFountaine IOOF Cemetery, SR 15.
