John E. Dougherty

John E. Dougherty, age 79, of Marion died Saturday, October 5, 2013 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
John was born February 2, 1934, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Paul and Martha Eastman Dougherty. He married Rosemary Hover on May 16, 1964, and she survives.
John was a 1952 graduate of Marion High School. He served in the United States Army from November 1954 to September 1957, stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he was an artist-calligrapher for The Chicago Tribune. He owned and operated Dougherty Sign Studio in Marion for 35 years.
Survivors include; his wife of 49 years, Rosemary Dougherty; two sons, David (Megan) Dougherty of Severna Park, Maryland and Nelson (Cindy) Dougherty of Louisville, Kentucky; 4 granddaughters, Katherine and Madelaine of Louisville, Kentucky, and Harper and Devon of Severna Park, Maryland; two brothers, Jim (Kay) Dougherty of Marion, Indiana, and Bill (Pat) Dougherty of Madisonville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013, in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
