Joseph A. Kidwell, known to those who cherished him as AJ, was born on a summer day in Marion, Indiana, on June 25, 1980. His life, rooted deeply in the heartland, came to a close in Van Buren, Indiana, on March 10, 2026, leaving behind a tapestry of memories colored by laughter, love, and an undeniable spirit of mischief.
AJ was a man of many facets. Professionally, he navigated his career with dedication and leadership, rising to the role of General Manager at the Dairy Queen in Gas City and later Regional Manager at Wing Stop. Yet, it was in his personal life where his true essence shone brightest. Those who knew him well remember his twisted sense of humor—an irrepressible appetite for pranks and practical jokes that could light up any room. Famously, his brother once super glued AJ’s foot to the floor, a testament to the lively, playful bond they shared, emblematic of AJ’s infectious zest for life.
Beyond his wit and warmth, AJ was a devoted family man. His greatest joy was spending endless hours with his children—Lilly, his daughter, and his sons, Jacob Cuevas and Joseph Kidwell II. To them, he was not only a father but a steadfast companion, sharing in their laughter and guiding them with unwavering love. His wife, Cristina Kidwell, stood beside him through life’s journey, their partnership a beacon of strength and affection.
AJ’s leisure moments often carried him to the tranquility of nature, where he found peace casting a line in quiet waters, indulging his love of fishing. When indoors, he delighted in the immersive worlds of video games, a pastime that connected him to his children and friends alike, reflecting his playful and youthful spirit.
He was a cherished son to Carl Loftis Jr. and Natalie White, lovingly embraced also by his stepfather, Wesley White. His family circle extended to include his maternal grandparents, Larry and Judy Berry; his brother, Carl Loftis III; and a nephew, Lincoln Loftis. AJ's life was further enriched by the presence of his mother-in-law, Ruth Cuevas, and Diane Sailors, a beloved aunt whose fondness for him was unmistakable. He also carried the memory of Herman Cuevas, his father-in-law, with reverence in his heart.
The final moments for AJ will be remembered and honored on March 16, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at the Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home located at 1202 West Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. This gathering will lead into a funeral service held in the same place at 1:00 p.m., a solemn yet heartfelt farewell befitting the man who left such indelible marks on all who knew him.
In an era often devoid of genuine connections, AJ's legacy is one of authenticity—a man who leaned into life’s absurdities with a mischievous grin, embraced family with open arms, and created memories that ripple like the waters he so loved to fish. His story is etched forever in the hearts of those fortunate enough to call him husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Though his voice has fallen silent, the echoes of his laughter and the warmth of his spirit remain, a gentle reminder that even the briefest lives can shine with enduring brilliance.
