Martha Susan (Webb) Marley

Martha Susan (Webb) Marley passed away on August 29, 2026. Martha was born in Niles, Michigan on February 7, 1932, to William Theodore and Belle (Towne) Webb. She was raised in Maryland and Indiana. In 1950, she graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana.

She attended Ball State University earning an Honors Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degrees in Education. Martha married Robert Earl Marley on July 31, 1955, in Mishawaka Indiana.

Martha taught elementary school for thirty-six years. First in Olympia, Washington from 1955 – 1956, and then with Marion Community Schools from 1959 until her retirement in 1994.

Always an advocate for children and education, she was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Indiana State Teachers Association, and a fifty-year member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for key women teachers.

Her hobbies included reading and writing prose and poetry and traveling in the United States and abroad.

In addition to her parents and sister Mary Louise Cummings, Martha was preceded in death by her husband Robert, daughter Marilyn Kreider, and many cousins, aunts and uncles, including Cecil Towne, Fern Fairchild and Ethel Keesy.

Martha is survived by two grandsons: David and Joel Kreider, and her niece Kathleen Cummings Holscher of Yakama, Washington.

Funeral services will be held at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W Kem Rd., Marion, Indiana 46952, on Thursday September 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 AM. Private burial will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery immediately following services.
