Marvin Dean Pinkerton

June 30, 1924 — May 2, 2013

Marvin Dean Pinkerton born June 30, 1924 in Huntington County, Indiana, passed away at home in Sweetser on May 2, 2013. He lived most of his life in Marion, Indiana, then moved to Sweetser to live with his daughter in November 2005. The last of 12 children, his parents who preceded him in death were Arvill O. and Jessie P. (Marshall) Pinkerton. He graduated from Marion High School and Marion College (IWU). He served in WWII from 1942-1946 with the U.S. Navy as an Electronic Technician 1st. Class, and was part of the Philippine Liberation and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He married M. Genevieve Burrows from New York on June 7, 1948, and she preceded him in death on February 25, 1973.

As a retired electrician he had worked for several companies in Grant County, as well as being self-employed. He attended Somerset Christian Church, was a teacher of God's word and used by God to start home Bible Studies up and down the east coast from New York to Florida. He was a member of the VFW Post #60 in Marion, and was also a volunteer at the Marion VA. He enjoyed gardening, being with family and friends, but his greatest joy was teaching and reading God's word.

Survivors include: three children, Dennis A. (Carol) Pinkerton of Batesville, Indiana, Leysa M. Taylor of Sweetser, Indiana, and Loren E. (Julie) Pinkerton of Marion, Indiana; and one grandson, Eric Stephen Taylor, US Air Force, Barksdale, LA.

He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Mildred T. Pinkerton, C. Eilene (Charles) Kindley, Freda G. (Merritt) Hoover, and Sybil E. (Max) Syplot; 7 brothers, one infant brother, Harry C. Pinkerton, Fred S. (Adren) Pinkerton, Ralph D. (Margaret) Pinkerton, Ivan D. Pinkerton, Norman W. (Doris) Pinkerton and twin brother, Melvin G. (Genevieve) Pinkerton; and 2 grandsons, Arthur Lee Pinkerton on March 21, 1982 and Nickolas Burrows Taylor on February 24, 2004.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Severt officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Etna Cemetery, Mt. Etna, Indiana.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana; and one hour prior to funeral services on Wednesday, May 8 in the funeral home.
