Philip Larry Gulley, born on March 6, 1949, in the quaint town of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, departed this life on November 20, 2025, in Marion, Indiana. Larry lived a life rich in service, community, and love, leaving a profound legacy that resonates deeply with all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A cherished husband to his wife Rebecca, whom he married on February 12, 1977—after a blizzard required a shift from their original wedding date—Philip was a devoted companion who provided unwavering 24-hour care for her, ensuring that her every need was met with compassion and grace. Their love was a testament to dedication; a beautiful bond built over nearly five decades.

Throughout his career, Larry exemplified dedication and commitment to his community. Retiring from the Marion Police Department, he became the longest-serving employee of the City of Marion, continuing his public service with the Marion Street Department and the Marion Parks Department. His spirit of stewardship also extended to his role as a School Security Officer at Peru Junior High and as a police liaison at Marion High School, where he kept watch over the safety and well-being of children and families alike.

Larry's military service in the United States Navy on the USS Hancock CVA 19, affectionately known as The Fighting Hanna, is a proud chapter of his life, one that added depth to his already commendable commitments as a protector of others.

With a spirited personality, Larry was known for his giving heart. He reveled in helping those around him, whether through community involvement or simply sharing a smile. His love for the outdoors was evident; he cherished playing football and baseball during his youth at Fleming County High School, to later rediscover camaraderie through co-ed softball for the Plymouth Club. Golf was another passion he pursued, alongside an unparalleled joy for tending to his yard. These activities complemented his treasured moments spent with family, including his four grandchildren—Gregory, Brooklyn, Delilah, and Phoenix—and one great-grandchild, Nilah, who brought endless joy to his life.

Larry is survived by his adoring wife Rebecca Gulley, son David (Amber) Gulley, brother Mike Gulley, sister Patty Bellamy, and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild, who will remember him fondly for his warmth, humor, and love.

He was preceded in death by parents Everett and Laura Gulley, a son, Danny Gulley; and siblings, Thelma Evans, Ray Gulley, and Allan Gulley, who have welcomed him into the eternal fold of family with open arms.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on November 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, located at 1202 West Kem Road, Marion, IN. A funeral service will be held the following day, November 26, at 9:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Subsequently, Larry will be laid to rest at the Marion National Cemetery, commencing at 10:00 AM.

Philip Larry Gulley’s life was a tapestry woven with kindness, service, and enduring love. As we remember him, let us carry forward his legacy of giving, of lifting others up, and of cherishing the moments spent with friends and family.
