Ralph L. Tuttle, age 91, of Marion, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Marion, Indiana.
Ralph was born on December 17, 1925 in Muncie, Indiana the son of the late Jesse and Mary (Torrence) Tuttle. He graduated from Central High School. He served in the Navy during WWII as an electronics technician and witnessed the surrender of the Japanese aboard the U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay. He married Margaret McGriff January 9, 1946 and came to live in Marion following his separation from service the following May. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2006.
He taught in the Marion Community Schools from 1950 until his retirement in 1984, and was chairman of the Mathematics department at Marion High School for several years. He also served in the Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1965 as an engineering officer, resigning his commission in 1965 to devote more time to the breeding of Appaloosa Horses.
He was a charter member of the Mississinewa Valley Corvette Club and was widely known as a Corvette enthusiast, usually owning at least two, and often more at a time.
He is survived by two sons, Steven Tuttle (Bonnie) and Randall Tuttle (Brenda); 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
