Robert E. Herring Jr., born October 5, 1960, in Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, in his hometown of Marion. Known affectionately as a gentle giant, Robert touched many lives with his warm presence, strength, and kindness.

Throughout his career, Robert dedicated himself to skilled and demanding work as a welder on offshore oil rigs with Halliburton in California. Closer to home, he also spent time as a bouncer and bartender at Waylon's, roles that reflected his strong yet approachable nature. These varied experiences showcased Robert’s dedication and versatility, traits that carried through every aspect of his life.

Robert had many interests that brought him joy and enriched his relationships. A passionate collector, he amassed a cherished collection of Hot Wheels, comic books, and Todd McFarlane statues, celebrating his love of art and nostalgia. He was an avid movie fan, particularly fond of the works of Adam Sandler and Arnold Schwarzenegger, often enjoying these films with family. In addition, Robert took great pleasure in working on his truck and treasured the times spent going out to dinner with those he loved. He had a great sense of humor, often twisted, and loved to make people laugh, he had jokes for days. 

His proudest accomplishment was marrying Kimberly Slone on September 13, 2003. Their commitment and partnership were a cornerstone of his happiness and a testimony to his deep devotion to family. Robert is survived by his loving wife Kimberly Herring; his sons Robert Herring III, Harley Herring, Wyatt Herring, and Austin Mitchell; daughters Electra Herring, Michelle (Morgan) McGlennen, Ashley Mitchell, and Brandy Mitchell; and his dear sister, Susan Ybarra, and Mindy Ashba-Warren. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and nephews Jay Ferguson, David Ferguson, Dennis "DJ" Ashba, Hunter Ashba, who will remember his affectionate spirit. His parents, Robert Herring Sr. and Mildred Hayes, preceded him in death.

A visitation will be held on April 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, located at 1202 West Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. This will be followed immediately by the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Pastor Johnnie Armes will officiate. Burial will take place immediately following services at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery.

Robert E. Herring Jr.’s legacy is firmly rooted in the love and respect of his family and friends. His gentle strength, loyalty, and rich passions continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered with honor and affection.
