Tammi Kay Cunningham, a beloved member of the Grant County community, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, with her family by her side. Born on April 29, 1962, in Marion, Indiana, she was a dedicated loan officer for over 30 years, working at various banks throughout Grant County. Her professional journey was marked by her strong work ethic and commitment to helping others achieve their financial goals.
Tammi graduated from Marion High School in 1980 and earned an associate's degree in accounting in 1981. Throughout her life, she was renowned not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her culinary skills, especially her cakes, which were cherished by family and friends. She had a strong-willed personality, which made her a remarkable force in both her personal and professional life.
Tammi was deeply involved in her community and created numerous fond memories, including her participation in programs to feed the homeless and those in need. She treasured her moments spent celebrating her birthday with trips to Red Lobster and enjoyed running to “Meme’s” house for snacks.
In addition to her career and community efforts, Tammi had a passion for horseshoe pitching, crocheting, and spending cherished time with the youngest members of her family. Her contributions to the sport of horseshoe pitching were significant; in 2011, she was inducted into the Indiana Horseshoe Association Hall of Fame after serving as secretary and treasurer for more than a decade. She also played a vital role in establishing the Paul Cunningham Memorial Tournament in Marion, a testament to her dedication to honoring her family legacy.
Tammi is survived by her brother Michael (Debi) Haynes; special nephews Jaron Simpson, Jalen (Sierra) Wingo; special niece Aimee (Chris) Carter; alongside numerous nieces and nephews including Ronald Thompson Jr., Stacie (Ollie) Timmons, Mistie (Scott) Roffelsen, Michael Haynes II, and Ashlee Wright; sisters Becky Shafer, Shirley Mitchem and Nancy Jones. She also leaves behind great nieces and nephews, including Michael (Kristen), Alyssa (Matt), Aaron (Leraya), Kia, Alaynee (Tommy), Austin, Caiden (Makenzie), Ambria, Koltyn, and Kelcee. special great nephews and neices, Aaron Jr. and Xander Haynes, Alivia Riddle and Lexington Swygart, and several additional nieces and nephews, and special friends and sisters Jill Guy and Lazett Haynes, and best friend Stan Morrell.
Tammi is preceded in death by her father, Fredrick "Paul" Cunningham Sr.; Mother Barbara "Cunningham" Stewart; brothers Fredrick Cunningham Jr., Vic Cunningham, and Robert Cunningham; sisters Cathy Thompson, Terrie Haynes, and Mary Ann Jones.
Her legacy will endure in the hearts of all those who had the privilege to know her, and she will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering spirit, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
Visitation will take place on July 30, 2025, at Gethsemane Episcopal Church, located at 111 E. 9th St., Marion, IN, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM.
