William Joy, a dedicated medical assistant and beloved family man, passed away on June 18, 2025, in his hometown of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Born on November 12, 1987, William's life was marked by his commitment to service and his deep love for his family.
William had an impactful career as a medical assistant at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, where he devoted 17 years to caring for veterans and ensuring their well-being. His educational journey culminated with an Associate degree in Medical Assistance from Harrison College, reflecting his dedication to the medical field and his desire to help those in need.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, William served honorably in the Indiana Army National Guard from 2005 to 2009. He was a member of the E-4 mafia, serving with Co B 1st BN 293 Infantry. He participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom between 2008 and 2009, showcasing his bravery and commitment to his country.
William was a man of varied interests and passions. He had a profound love for cars, often finding joy in buying and restoring them to their former glory. His enthusiasm for automobiles was only surpassed by the time he cherished with his son, William R. Joy, whom he regarded as his pride and joy. His daughters, Alexis Phelps and Paige Schnider, also held a special place in his heart, as did his family members and friends.
William leaves behind a loving family that includes his father, William A. Joy II, his stepmother, Karen Joy, his brother, Chris Joy, and his sister, Megan (Blake) Boice. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Joy.
William's life will be honored with a visitation on June 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by a burial service at 11:00 AM at the Marion National Cemetery, located at 1700 E 38th St, Marion, Indiana.
As his family and friends gather to pay their respects, they will undoubtedly hold close the memories of a man who embodied kindness and dedication, whose spirit will continue to resonate in their lives. William Joy will be remembered not just for his accomplishments but for the love and joy he brought to those who were fortunate enough to know him.
