Wilma Jean (Scott) Moriarity

September 3, 1932 — April 30, 2022

Wilma Jean (Scott) Moriarity, age 89, was greeted at the Gates of Heaven by her husband, Keith and daughter, Linda and all of her loved ones who have gone before her on Saturday, April 30, 2022.  Her eyesight was restored and her pain is now gone.  She is free.

Wilma was born on September 3, 1932 in Fairmount, Indiana the daughter of the late John Riley Scott and Zola (Harrold) Scott-Lanham.  She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1950, and on September 23, 1951, she married Leroy Keith Moriarity.  Together, they had five children and shared 57 years.  Keith and Wilma went on many vacations together and especially loved going on cruises.  For their 50th Anniversary they took their children, spouses and grandchildren, twenty-two in all on a cruise to celebrate.  Many memories were made and it was a vacation that will never be forgotten.

Wilma’s first job was at Two Son Manufacturing and Tool in Fairmount, where she learned bookkeeping.  She then worked in downtown Marion at the Paris Store for Women and Children, and then Richards Men’s Store.   She was a secretary and bookkeeper for Indo Advertising for many years located in the old Iroquois building downtown.  The business was sold and moved to Alexandria, and renamed Burkhart Advertising where she continued to work for several more years.  Her last job was for McClure Oil Corporation as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Wilma was a lifetime member of Center Christian Church and had also attended Fairmount Friends Church and the Monticello Christian Church.   After retirement she enjoyed their summer home on Lake Shafer and wintering in Port Charlotte, Florida.  She loved her time spent with family both in Indiana and Florida making long lasting memories. Their homes were always open to all who came to visit and she loved cooking and entertaining big crowds.  She was a great cook and baker, and family was everything to her.

Her husband Keith preceded her in death in Florida on February 12, 2009.  In September of the same year, Wilma went blind overnight from a very rare disease called Temporal Arteritis, and the life she had loved so much changed drastically for her and would never be the same.   Although the challenges were huge, she never once asked God why?  She just said “God has a plan in store for me I just don’t know what it is but one day I will”.  Wilma always smiled through all of her challenges like a true and faithful servant to the Lord up until her very last breath.

Wilma’s passion was quilting and she loved making beautiful quilts for her loved ones.  She also enjoyed, sewing of all kinds, cross-stitch, embroidery, crocheting and knitting and she loved to teach others her crafts.  She loved going to the ladies quilting club at her church in Florida.  Wilma was an all-around very talented person and always had something in her hands that she was working on and many projects going at one time.  She was a 10 year 4-H member and won many grand champions in quilting and food products.  Wilma was a former member of the Unity of Fairmount Women’s Club.

When she wasn’t quilting, she also loved going shopping anytime, anywhere, especially on Black Friday; and playing Scrabble hours on end with Brenda.  Wilma touched so many lives in her 89 years and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.   She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and very loyal friend.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Debbie ) Moriarity of Fairmount, Marvin Moriarity of Upland, Brenda (Gregory) Hensley of Gas City, and Patrick  (Bonnie) Moriarity of Jonesboro; two sisters, Mary Shelton of Hamilton, Michigan and Phyllis (Gale “Brian”) Hikade of Fairmount; three sisters-in-law, Janet (Paul) Yarger of Marion, Nancy (Stan) Riddle of N. Port, Florida and Judy Scott of Fairmount; grandchildren, Abby Moriarity, Jamie Moriarity, Michelle (Dr. Nathan) Hoover, Brian (Michelle) Moriarity, Lyndsay (Corey) Speikes, and Justin Whitton; step-grandchildren, Alicia Regnault (Kevin Jr.), and Michael Carl; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Austin, Madison, Keira, Jamison, Mercedes, Gabrielle, Bridget, Riley, Sophia, and Chanel; step great-grandchildren, Timmy, Jason and Penelope; many nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue Moriarity, daughter-in-law, Vicky Moriarity; brother, Robert Scott; sister-in-law, Patricia Moriarity-Smith and her husband, Jim; nephews, Kevin Shelton and Roger Craig.
