Anne Gottschalk Obituary

Anne Latchaw Gottschalk, age 90, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 4 surrounded by family at her home in Carmel, Indiana.

Anne was born on June 18, 1932, in Lansing, Michigan to John R. and Elda B. Latchaw.

Anne graduated from Marion (Indiana) High School in 1950 and attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. During her career, Anne worked as a Deputy Auditor for the Grant County (Indiana) Auditor’s Office and held various roles at Jacobson’s Department Store and Pegden Brother’s Jewelry, as well as a Teacher’s Aide within the Marion Community School System.

Throughout her adult life, Anne demonstrated her love for Marion, via her community volunteerism that included roles such as Boy Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Troop Leader, Marion General Hospital Auxiliary volunteer, Marion Heart Center volunteer, Marion Easter Pageant volunteer, and church Choir member. Additionally, Anne was a member of the YWCA, Hostess House, Van Buren American Legion, First United Methodist Church where she served as a chaperone and volunteer for several Appalachia Service Project mission trips, and was a past member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Deacon, pastor nominating committee member, and co-coordinator of church-wide meals.  Anne also served two terms on the Pleasant Township Board including as Vice President Committeeperson.

Anne was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority since 1956 and served as Chapter President. It was her membership in the PEO Sisterhood where she was a member of Indiana Chapter BT (Marion, Indiana) since 1967 that provided the platform for Anne to soar. She held several local positions including  Chapter President before rising to State Officer and eventually State President. In doing so, she touched the lives of many all the while fostering the importance of empowering women through the organization’s many philanthropic and educational programs.

Anne’s faith in God helped guide her and her love for her family nurtured her throughout her life.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents John R., Elda (Gonderman) Latchaw, and Evelyn (Ratcliffe) Latchaw, her husband Earl Gottschalk, her former husband and father to her four children, William A.
