Debra M. McIlwain

Debra M. McIlwain, age 64, of Marion passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2023 in her home.

Debra was born on November 19, 1958, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of the late Max M. Brane and Connie (Keesey) Lane.  She married John McIlwain on August 16, 1980, and he survives.

Debra was a cook for the Oak Hill School Corporation for many years retiring in 2017.  She was a very active member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed being a part of the Shekinah Singing Group, was a Vacation Bible School Teacher and helped with the church food ministry.

She is survived by her husband, John McIlwain; two sons, John “JJ” Mason McIlwain II (Stacy) of West Virginia, and Michael James McIlwain of Marion; a sister, Carla Brane of Andrews; and two grandchildren, Ava and Alexander McIlwain.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the St. James Lutheran Church, 1206 N. Miller Avenue, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Fred Hearn officiating.

Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Services of Grant County, 305 S. Norton Avenue Tower Suites, Marion, Indiana 46952; or to St. James Lutheran Church, 1206 N. Miller Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46952.
