Obituary

Donald Jay Ferguson, age 64, passed away at 1:34 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Marion Health in Marion.

Jay was born on June 17, 1958 in Marion, Indiana, the son of Donald J. and Barbara Ann (Cunningham) Ferguson. 

Jay was a 1976 graduate of Marion High School.  He began almost 50 year career in the lumber business.  He began his career at Byrd Lumber in Marion, also known as Lumbertown, and then, at Builders Mart in Wabash, up until the time of his illness.  Jay will be remembered as a man who truly wanted to help others, especially in the building trades.  Many times he donated his time to help others build or improve their houses.

 He was a past president of the Grant County Home Builders Association; and president of Mississinewa Development.   He was a member of First Christian Church in Marion, the Marion Aero Club where he served as a past president, and Arbor Trace Golf Course.  He was an avid fan of the Marion Giants, the Chicago Cubs, the Indianapolis Colts, and Indiana Wesleyan College Football and Basketball.   Jay also loved fishing here in Marion, and in the UP of Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Lucretia (Lester) Ferguson; sons, Michael (Amelia), Brad, and Craig (girlfriend, Hannah);grandchildren, Kelsey, Ean, Jack and Levi (Beany); brothers, Joseph Ferguson, and Jon Ferguson, both of Marion; sisters-in-law, Patty (Jeff) Hotsinpiller, Karen (Darrell) Durbin, and Dawn (Mike) Orona; and best friends, Kevin Pearson, Scott Trimble, Ray and Jay Bradford, Danny Dalrymple, Dennis Jackson, Tom Legg,  Jon Swain and Greg Tonagel.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Haley Asberry officiating.  As per Jay’s wishes, cremation will take place following funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Services of Grant County, 305 S. Norton Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46952; or to the Grant County Red Cross Blood Bank, 241 W. Third Street, Marion, Indiana 46952 in Jay’s honor.
