Obituary

John Jay “Bud” Gill, Jr., age 89, of Marion passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 in his home.

Bud was born March 16, 1933 in Trenton, New Jersey the son of the late John Jay Gill, Sr. and Flora (Hawks) Gill. 

He married Connie Patterson on July 7, 1977, and she survives.  He was a maintenance manager for General Cold Storage and East Detroit School Systems until his retirement.   Bud was also a U. S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Bud was an avid drag race enthusiast and raced among names like Big Daddy Don Garlits.  He also enjoyed buying and selling and working on motorcycles and scooters.  You could always find Bud at the local swap meet “wheeling and dealing”.  He was also an Arthur Murray Dance Instructor and was a great dancer.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Gill; a sister, Deveron Bowman; step-sons, Steven Carmichael, Bryan (Stacey) Carmichael and Aaron Carmichael; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are entrusted to Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Cremation will take place with burial at Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
