Verlin E. Wine

Verlin Wine, age 80, of Marion passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 2, 1942 in Van Buren, Indiana the son of the late Russell and Sylvia (Baker) Wine.  He was born and grew up on the family farm in Van Buren where he loved working in the fields and taking care of his dairy cows.  He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1960, and then went to work at Culligan Water Conditioning in 1962.  After being employed for 13 years, he then became the owner in 1975.  He looked forward to going to work every day so he could serve his customers, who he also considered friends.  He sold the business to his son Mitch in 2010 and although he was “retired”, he continued to work there for 10+ years.

Little did he know that his trip to Custer’s Last Stand in the summer of 1962 is where he would meet his future wife of 58 years.  He married Martha Dollries on November 3, 1963.  They raised three children and enjoyed many family vacations together.  He was an avid golfer and loved being on the course with all of his golf buddies.  Some of his favorite memories include his many golf trips and attending The Masters twice.  He always put family first and treasured family get-togethers . 

He is survived by his wife, Martha Wine of Marion; a son, Mitch (Beth) Wine of Marion; daughters, Jill (Brian) Glass of Ft. Wayne, and Leah Gladieux of Ft. Wayne; brother, Howard (Lou Ann) Wine of Marion; grandchildren, Danielle (Brandon) Cramer of Napoleon, Ohio, Erin (Garret) Kamine of Ft. Wayne, Kristen Gladieux of Wilmington, N. Carolina, Tyler Glass of Ft. Wayne, Spencer Glass of Ft. Wayne, Addison Wine of Indianapolis, and Ashton Wine of Marion; and great-grandchildren, Vivian and Everleigh Cramer of Napoleon, Ohio,  and Salem Vass, of Wilmington, N. Carolina.

Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. 

Visitation will also be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022 in the funeral home prior to funeral services.  Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Burial will immediately follow funeral services in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
