Robert J. Sturm, age 79, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Parkview Regional Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Robert was born on May 16, 1937 in Marion, Indiana the son of the late Robert J. Sturm and Rosalia (Gramelspachen) Sturm.  He married Mari Carolyn Fox and she survives.

He went to school at Bennett/St. Paul and later graduated from Marion High School.  He then attended Indiana University and Ball State.  He was in the US Army National Guard for six years and then worked at RCA/GE/Thompson Consumer Electronics for more than 40 years as a plant engineer until his retirement in 1999. 

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Marion and the Knights of Columbus.  Robert enjoyed golfing and attending the youth programs his son directed in Ft. Wayne. 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mari Sturm of Marion; a son, Robert Mitchell of Ft. Wayne; and his faithful walking cat and companion, “Major”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Rosalia Sturm; his in-laws, Lewis and Helen Fox; and a granddaughter, Rachel Kristin Sturm.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  A Rosary Service will follow at 12:30 in the funeral home.  Funeral Mass will then be held at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.

Entombment will be held following the funeral mass at Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the MVP Basketball Program at the Ft. Wayne Boys & Girls Club, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
